You are a Work in Progress

Is there a time when you question God about all the failures in your life? Have you asked him why He allows you to struggle and why your life is nothing but a mess?

Before you think that you are the most unfortunate person on Earth, let me share to you about one person who struggle almost in his entire life because of failures, rejections, loss of love ones and defeats.

I am going to talk about a man by the name of Abraham Lincoln, he was a great man I tell you, when you talk to American they would say Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest president of American history. He was such a great leader who was able to fight for justice, he had an incredible presidency, successful human being and yet people don’t know about his life. I am going to share with you how tragic his life was from the start all the way.

1809, Abraham Lincoln was born
1816, his family was forced out of their home he needed to work at the age of 7
1818, his mother passed away
1828, his sister died
1831, a business venture failed
1832, he ran as state legislator but lost. In the same year he lost his job, he tried to
go to law school but could not get in.
1833, he borrowed money from a friend to start a business but by year-end he was
1835, he was engaged to be married but his fiancée died
1836, he had a total nervous breakdown and was bedridden for 6 whole months, he
was totally completely depressed
1837, he sought to become a speaker of state legislature but he lost.
1840, he sought to become an elector but he was defeated
1842, he marries Mary Todd they had 4 boys but only 1 lived into maturity
1843, he ran for congress but he lost
1849, he sought the job of a land officer in his home state but he did not get the job
1850, his son Edward died
1854, he ran for the senate of the United States but he lost again
1856, he sought for the Vice Presidential nomination he got less than 100 votes
1858, he ran for the senate again but he lost
And then in 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected as President of the United States of America. And from then on he became such a great, fantastic, unbelievable president that America ever had.

Things to Think About

You may be going through your struggles now, may be you are going from one problem to another problem to another problem. You do what Abraham Lincoln did. He did not focus on the problem he perseveres instead.

God allows you to experience failures because He wants you to strengthen your faith, trust and your determination and He wants you to know what you really want in your life. Everything has a gestation period, meaning there is a time of waiting and you cannot rush nor force things but you need to work for it and persevere.

Some people give up if they experience failures because they want a rush or quick success in their lives. Some people are so dependent on some miracle when God said the miracle I need of you is perseverance and the building of your character. Prayer is very powerful but you need to take action as well.

Don’t just ask God “God please give me this, and this and this all of this” Don’t just stay and wait in your room and you count your mistakes in the past and you cry over spilled milk. Do something, help yourself and work what you are praying for.

The answer to your prayers is not always a YES but sometimes it is a NOT YET you have to trust God for He knows what is best for you. If your life is a mess it’s okay, we have to go through that rough-dirty-ugly-terrible-unpleasant-unpleasant of the most unpleasant-very bad-not good-messy process before we become the person that we want to be.

Do you know the story of Aladdin and the lamp?

Do you know why the genie came out from the lamp?

Because Aladdin rubbed it, but do you know why he rubbed the lamp?

Because it was dirty.

You are like the lamp, dirty and messy but God will rub the dirt from you so the magic in your life will come out. So if your life is mess it’s okay, even the most successful person you ever knew experienced that kind of process as well. When you experience failures, it’s okay because you are a work in progress it is just for now soon you will be surprise by the blessings that God will pour into your life.

Before You Leave, Let me Tell You Another Story

The only survivor of a shipwreck washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.

Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements and to store his few possessions.

But then one day after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stung with grief and anger. “God, how could you do this to me!” he cried.

Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him.

“How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man to his rescuers. “We saw your smoke signal” they replied.

Just when things look bleakest because of failures or your problems, hang in there a little while longer, and the next time your little hut is burning to the ground, it just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.

You are not a failure you are a work in progress, it is not what you think it is.

As always thanks for reading, God bless us all!
