Three Steps Towards Self-Improvement

Have you been feeling a little sluggish recently, perhaps craving a change in your life, or maybe even a fresh start? If you’ve been struggling to get out of bed in the mornings, don’t worry; it doesn’t have to take a retreat in the mountains to help you feel comfortable in your own skin again. Whether it’s finding an exercise that excites you, or doing something about your dry cracked hands and treating yourself to a manicure – it’s often the little changes in life that have the potential to change the way we feel and improve our outlook.

Here are three simple things you can do to improve yourself and the way you feel – results guaranteed…

The Science of Sleep

This one should be a no-brainer, but due to our hectic lifestyles, sleep often comes in second to work, family duties, and a social life. Experts recommend at least seven hours of sleep a night, and sleep deficiency has been linked to depression, a higher risk of heart disease, and decreased productivity – among other things. You thought you were shining at work because of all those late nights you put in? You’re probably wrong, and cutting back sleep is not something anyone can afford to do. Prioritise your sleep for a week or two, and see how it makes you feel. Your body isn’t designed to rely on a double espresso each morning, so get seven hours of sleep and a cup of green tea instead – your body will thank you.

Find an Exercise You Love

[adinserter block=”1″]If you have a gym membership that hasn’t been touched for the past few months, it’s time to get back into the workout habit. That doesn’t mean that you have to force yourself to the gym when you clearly hate every second of it. The trick to building a sustainable workout routine is finding an exercise you love. If you can’t spare time for the trip to the gym or studio, there are plenty of workout options at home, with Pilates instructors and yoga pros offering free classes and advice online. Try making your workout a part of your daily routine. Pack your gym bag when you leave in the morning, sign up for a class after work, and head home feeling sweaty, happy, and healthy. Some favourites are Bikram Yoga – yoga practiced in a heated room, which helps you sweat out all the toxins – or indoor climbing, which is great for stress relief. If you’d prefer going to an outdoor fitness boot camp, see what’s happening in your local area.

Pamper Yourself

It’s important to feel comfortable with your appearance. Whether you’re self conscious about dry cracked hands, clothes that have seen better days, or even chipped nails – wanting to look better has nothing to do with pleasing other people. After all, if you look put together and are satisfied with what you see in the mirror, you are much more likely to feel content and happy. Looking after yourself can be as simple as basic skincare – slip on some moisturising gloves to get rid of dry cracked hands, or splash out and go for a professional facial. You know best what makes you feel most comfortable with your appearance. Take the time to do it – we only have one body and should never underestimate the importance of a confident and happy appearance.
